Dimensions: 55 cm x 55 cm x 93 cm high
Materials: Mahogany, imported leather

These custom designed dining chairs are a classic example of Kimchi’s design hierarchy theory. The dining table, with its massive proportions, wild, lustrous veneered top and richly carved uprights, sets the tone for the more subdued chairs which accompany it. Together they comprise a harmonious, hand-crafted dining set, each component of which speaks the same language, but in slightly different dialects. Before commencing work on the chairs themselves Kimchi presented the clients with a full-scale mock-up of the chair to adjust for maximum comfort.

Dimensions: 60 cm x 50 cm x 120 cm high
Materials: One solid log of mapa burl

I had been seasoning this excellent section of mapa burl for about two years, deliberating what to make from it. When the moment finally came to cut into the wood I realized that a throne-not just a chair-was what beckoned to be released. This piece displays both spiraled carving and gently softened bits of natural burl which were left in strategic spots.

Designed as part of a whole dining set, these chairs took their cue from the massive table. The ten side chairs are accompanied by a slightly taller arm chair at either end. The seats are hand-sculpted to afford both a comfortable sitting and add an attractive element which enhances the design.
