Swirled End Table

Dimensions: 100 cm x 62 cm x 57 cm high
Materials: African walnut, maple, wenge

This end table is a celebration of the swirled form. The interspersed layers of wenge and maple serve to add visual drama and draw attention to the “geological formations” in the piece.

Molten Mahogany Dining Table

Dimensions: 240 cm x 120 cm x 75 cm high
Materials: Mahogany, wenge

This dining table boasts a very labor-intensive base. Each upright is both coopered and deeply sculpted. The uprights are connected by a sinuous, carved apron. The top is adorned with a subtle inlay of wenge.

Yin and Yang Glass-Topped Sculpted Coffee Table

Dimensions: 140 cm x 90 cm x 45 cm high
Materials: Mahogany, glass

Every once in a while wood artist Jeremy Kimchi will go more than just his usual extra mile. This sculpted table is a case in point. He created the piece for Israel’s second annual fine woodworking expo that was held in the Tel Aviv port, and it was decidedly one of the key attractions at the show.
The base was contructed by gluing together extra thick angled staves, making the joinery for the cross piece, then deeply carving them with the sinuous vertical forms.
The focal point of the piece is the intricately carved tip of the cross piece – where the yin and yang converge.

Kinetic Coffee Table

Dimensions:120 cm x 70 cm x 46 cm high
Materials: Mapa burl, wenge and painted fleixible plywood

Here is another example of braking out of the box.
Kimchi enjoys redefining common pieces and adding a naughty twist.

Carved Canyon Sculpted Coffee Table

Dimensions: 160 cm x 90 cm x 42 cm high

This sculpted coffee table displays a variety of textures which add richness and depth to the geologically inspired forms. The inspiration for this piece of art furniture came from the desert landscape near Kimchi’s home.

Neo-Classical Leaping Deer Hall Table

Dimensions: 120 cm x 40 cm x 110 cm high
Materials: Wenge and mapa burl

This hall table exemplifies Kimchi’s love of the synthesis between neo-classicism and primitivism. The piece is equipped with a drawer whose handle is the flowing, wood sculpture on the front.

Sculpted Drop Leaf Desk

Dimensions: 155 cm x 65 cm x 128 cm high
Materials: Cherry and curly maple

This desk is designed to look attractive both open and closed. It also allows one to hide the messy work area in a jiffy. It is endowed with four deep drawers below, and four delicate drawers to house smaller items in the upper tier. An accompanying chair and mirror were made to complete the ensemble.

Stratified Formations Hall Table

Dimensions: 140 cm x 40 cm x 90 cm high
Materials: Mahogany, maple wood

This piece of functional wood sculpture was designed for a narrow foyer. The goal was to create an attractive piece that would welcome people entering the home, have a functional surface, and yet protrude only minimally into the passageway. The stratified layers remind Kimchi of the clearly delineated geological layers visible in the desert canyons surrounding his home.

Desert Canyon Sculpted Coffee Table

Dimensions: 150 cm x 90 cm x 40 cm high
Materials: Mahogany wood, glass

The inspiration for this piece of functional wood art came directly from the dramatic desert views seen from Kimchi’s home. The Wadi Kelt (Nachal Prat) canyon cuts a rugged path through the biblical landscape as it winds down from the Jerusalem hills towards the Jordan River and the Dead sea. The “S” shape seen here in this sculpted coffee table represents a particular bend in the canyon directly below the village where Kimchi resides.
The custom made coffee table is constructed of multiple layers of mahogany wood with interlocking joinery which had to be precisely planned and positioned to prevent its being exposed during the carving process.

Undulating Cocktail Table

Dimensions: 90 cm x 50 cm x 52 cm high
Materials: Mahogany and maple

This is one of a pair of mirror-imaged tables situated in the business lounge area of a five star Hilton hotel in Altamonte Springs, Florida. There they serve as end table, providing an inviting ambiance for formal or informal meetings and rendez-vous.

Wavy-Legged Chess Table

Materials: Wenge, padouk and curly maple

This “Memphis” style inspired piece adds a touch of playfulness to the game. Each player is equipped with a small, dovetailed drawer to house his chess pieces. Small touches, such as the inlaid butterfly joints on the top, and the padouk tips at the bottom of the legs, serve to round out the composition.

Negative Space Coffee Table

Dimensions: 140 cm x 90 cm x 45 cm high
Materials: African walnut

This coffee table is a variation on the theme of the Desert Canyon Sculpted Coffee Table. In this case the emphasis was placed on creating a whole (the oval form) and then cutting negative spaces into it. Upon observation Kimchi later discovered that the negative cut-outs, which were intended for the wood stove, actually had potential to become a dynamic sculpture in their own right. Here the coffee table can be seen both on its own and together with the negative cut-out sculpture.

Undulating Glass Topped Coffee Table

Dimensions: 150 cm x90 cm x 45 cm high
Materials: Mahogany and 19 mm thick glass

This fluid-lined piece was created by stack-laminating layers of mahogany pre-cut to rough shape. The block was then sculpted to final form and finely sanded. The protruding tips were then carefully removed, and threaded screws were inserted, passing through the glass. The glass top is thus securely fixed in place, allowing peace of mind when children or grandchildren are about.

Neo-Moroccan Coffee Table

Dimensions: 70 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm high

Flying Fox Serving Table

Dimensions: 150 cm x 40 cm x 90 cm high

Materials: Mahogany, glass

The inspiration for this sculpted coffee table came to Kimchi from a family camping trip in the wilds of Utah, U.S.A. Images of the amazing and awe inspiring rock formations he saw there in Arches National Park remained implanted in him and eventually gave birth to this wood art creation.

Hatching Egg Serving Table

Dimensions: 140 cm x 40 cm x 100 cm high
Materials: Mahogany and ash with wenge accent and black dye

The base of this piece was created by first stack-laminating slabs of mahogany, then carefully sculpting out the opening and chisle-texturing the inner surfaces, later stained black for drama. The top also has a notched out “hatching crack” on the left. This shape metamorphosizes into a lightening bolt wenge inlay.

Pensive Gazelle Hall Table

Dimensions: 90 cm X 32 cm X 78 cm high
Materials: Mahogany, lacewood, wenge wood

This is a rather quiet version of the “Leaping Gazelle Hall Table” of which kimchi has made several variations. Normally Kimchi’s gazelles are alive with asymmetric tension, whereas here he has created a contemplative animal in repose. The legs are unusually delicate at the bottom tip, and neatly capped with wenge at the top. The two swaths of lacewood inlayed in the top are bordered on each side by a thin strip of inlayed wenge which adds a touch of definition and refinement.

Spider-Legged Hall Table

Dimensions: 85 cm x 45 cm x 80 cm high
Materials: Bookmatched walnut crotch and walnut

The concept for this piece came about while studying an amazing pair of bookmatched walnut boards. The spiderlike shape emerged as I developed the design from the top down. The two sets of aprons were created by laminating strips of walnut and gluing them together in two specially made molds.

Floating Topped Serving Table

Kimchi had a wonderful time carving this motif into the custom made dining table. The vibrantly textured crotch veneer was hand picked together with the client.
